The main purpose of this study was to compare health education with various educational topics related to oral and dental health and to examine the sustainability of the effect of these methods in improving oral health. 161 students were randomly divided into three groups. The plaque index was measured before the intervention, two weeks, and two months after the intervention, and its changes over time were recorded. Data were analyzed using Chi-square (Bonferroni adjustment), McNemar, Paired t, and Kruskal-Wallis tests. Based on the obtained results, there was no statistically significant difference between the halitosis group and the traditional group, but both groups were significantly different from the control group (P-value< 0.05). Positive changes in the bad breath group, especially in girls, were more lasting than other groups (P-value< 0.05). According to the results of this study, oral and dental health education along with education about bad breath, caries, and gum disease have a greater effect on improving the health level of students. In addition, education about bad breath has a more lasting effect. Therefore, it is suggested to include this teaching method in educational programs.
